About The Position

Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) is seeking part-time After School Counselors / Group Leaders for its Bronx location. The role supports children impacted by parental incarceration through after-school supervision and youth-development programming. Counselors carry out the daily schedule, implement CPNYC’s curriculum, help students with homework and academic growth, and lead age-appropriate activities in an activity-based environment. The position is Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, in the Bronx, NY.

Requirements

• At least one year of child care experience in an after-school setting.
• Minimum of an Associate’s degree or college credits, with relevant experience.
• Energetic and enthusiastic in working with youth.
• Ability to work with youth and the general public.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
• A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, particularly in General Education (K-8), Special Education, Social Work, Teaching, Professional Child Care, Psychology, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall supervision to scholars during after-school hours.
• Carry out daily activities, including arts and crafts, homework help, reading, sports, and fitness.
• Implement the CPNYC curriculum to help school-age children improve literacy competencies, values, and physical fitness.
• Assist with planning and creating innovative, age-appropriate activities.
• Develop lesson plans and conduct them daily; read, tell stories, and lead songs and games.
• Help maintain enrollment and daily attendance records.
• Assist children with homework and guide students in their academic growth.
• Conduct field trips or attend events, using public transportation or traversing city streets as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
