About The Position

Incarnate Word High School, an all-girls Catholic high school sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, is seeking a Full-Time Counselor for the 2026-2027 school year. The candidate must possess current licensure and is expected to help maintain a fully and authentically Catholic environment. The School Counselor will implement a comprehensive, developmental guidance and counseling program aligned with the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and the ASCA National Model, while fully integrating the Catholic mission and CCVI charism of Incarnate Word High School. This role supports academic achievement, college and career readiness, and social-emotional development through a data-driven, student-centered program designed to prepare all students for postsecondary success and responsible Christian leadership. Services will be delivered across four TEA/ASCA domains: Guidance Curriculum (Tier 1 – Schoolwide), Responsive Services (Tier 2 & 3 – Targeted/Individual), Individual Planning (College, Career, Graduation Plans), and System Support (Program Management & Collaboration).

Requirements

Valid Texas Standard School Counselor Certification issued by the Texas Education Agency (Required)
A minimum of three years’ high school counseling experience is required
Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
Must pass Texas DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse screening
Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet use for educational purposes and multimedia presentations
Strong understanding of adolescent development
Crisis intervention and risk assessment skills
Ability to analyze and interpret academic and behavioral data
Effective communication with diverse stakeholders
Organizational and multitasking capacity
Proficiency with student information systems and counseling platforms

Nice To Haves

Minimum of three (3) years of secondary counseling experience preferred
At least one year of counseling in a Catholic school is preferred

Responsibilities

Design and deliver a structured counseling curriculum that supports academic success, goal setting, college/career/military readiness, social-emotional competencies, and faith formation consistent with CCVI charism.
Deliver classroom lessons aligned to TEKS-based counseling standards, including study skills, time management, digital citizenship, and college/career awareness.
Provide immediate and short-term counseling support through individual and small group counseling for issues such as grief, anxiety, and academic support.
Conduct crisis response and risk assessments for situations like suicide, abuse, and trauma, and refer to community mental health services when appropriate.
Maintain documentation aligned with ethical/legal standards and collaborate with administration on student safety and intervention plans.
Serve as a mental health advocate within the school.
Guide students in developing and monitoring Personal Graduation Plans (PGPs) and postsecondary readiness pathways.
Provide academic advising, including course selection aligned to endorsements.
Assist with college and career planning using platforms like Naviance.
Assist students with college applications, FAFSA/TASFA completion, scholarships, and financial aid.
Interpret student data, including grades, assessments, and PSAT/SAT/AP results.
Support the effectiveness of the school counseling program through leadership, collaboration, and program management.
Collaborate with faculty, administration, and parents.
Coordinate standardized testing, including PSAT, SAT, AP exams, NWEA, and ARK.
Participate in campus improvement planning.
Use data to evaluate program effectiveness and close achievement gaps.
Provide parent education sessions and workshops.
Uphold and model the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Integrate faith into counseling practices and student formation.
Promote service, dignity of the person, and moral decision-making.
