About The Position

  • OPI Counselor endorsement required.
  • Valid Montana driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree (M. S.) in Counseling and three to five years related experience and/or training preferred
  • Training/experience working with youth is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists students to understand and overcome social and emotional problems.
  • Engages in research and follow-up activities to evaluate counseling techniques.
  • Provides guidance counseling on an individual and group basis also student(s)-family and student-faculty member mediation.
  • Actively involves parents in the guidance counseling process.
  • Maintains and effective system for keeping counseling records accurate and up-to-date.
  • Keeps individual student counseling files locked and confidential.
  • Works with secretary and principal in keeping permanent student records up-to-date.
  • Works with the drug/alcohol counselor in preparing needed programs for the children such as Red Ribbon activities.
  • Works with other counseling faculty and meets with them on a weekly basis to coordinate ideas, programs and new methods of working with the children.
  • Keeps informed of current trends in the guidance and counseling areas.
  • Meets with the principal weekly to monitor student's academic, behavioral and social progress.
  • Works with each class to teach good mental, behavioral, and emotional techniques i.e. Second Step Program.
  • Teaches the Family Life Program in classes if necessary.
  • Works with staff to make sure that counseling needs are being met for students.
  • Develops and maintains contacts with agencies that provide counseling and/or psychological services to students.
  • Member of the school's Special Needs Team.
  • Guards school building, grounds, and property against theft, vandalism, trespassing, and all illicit acts during shift and during sports events and other activities.
  • Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
