About The Position

Bay Cove Human Services’ mission is to partner with people to overcome challenges and realize personal potential. Bay Cove pursues this mission by providing individualized and compassionate services to people facing the challenges associated with developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance use disorders, and homelessness at more than 175 program sites throughout Greater Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts. Under the direction of the Clinical Director and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, the Counselor is responsible for providing clinical services including assessment, individual and group counseling, and case management service for individuals in recovery from substance use disorders and co-occurring behavioral health disorders, in partnership with other providers across Bay Cove’s continuum of care as well as with external providers. The Counselor contributes to Bay Cove’s mission by providing trauma-informed and person-centered services to individuals in pursuit of their recovery goals. This is a non-exempt position. The schedule for this position is Tuesday-Saturday 11am-7pm.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in social work or a closely related field required.
Minimum of one (1) year supervised counseling experience in substance use disorder/behavioral health treatment settings required.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing distress resulting from behavioral health issues required.
Demonstrated use of appropriate independent judgment to determine appropriate course of action in resolving problems and in emergencies.
At least intermediate proficiency with word processing and other computer functions using Windows, Word, and Google Email and Apps required.
Demonstrated clinical writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.
Utilizes a flexible and responsible work style that meets evolving needs of the agency.

Ability to remain in a stationary position (e.g., sitting at a desk or in meetings) for extended periods while completing documentation and administrative tasks.
Frequent movement throughout the program to conduct wellness/safety checks, check the physical environment, and move supplies.
Frequent and clear communication with individuals, colleagues, and partners, requiring the ability to exchange accurate information in person, by phone, and in writing.
Occasional lifting or carrying of program materials, supplies, or small equipment (up to 20 pounds).
Ability to provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and overdose rescue (naloxone administration) if needed.

Nice To Haves

Licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC I or LADC II), Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC), or Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADAC) preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of the substance use treatment continuum and services and related community resources/aftercare placement options preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide a warm, welcoming, and safe environment while interacting with individuals to ensure service needs are met.
Engage individuals to conduct interviews, develop comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, and establish individualized treatment plans within required timeframes.
Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions in accordance with the individualized action plan to and in alignment with evidence based curriculums under the supervision of the Clinical Director.
Complete all documentation in the electronic health record in accordance with agency and DPH/BSAS guidelines for format, timeliness, and quality assurance.
Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team via active participation in team meetings, informing decision making regarding treatment planning by communicating observations regarding status changes and document these changes in a Multidisciplinary Service Notes.
Work with each individual toward completion of treatment, and identification of needed and desired transitional, discharge, and aftercare supports.
Maintain records in compliance with agency and funder requirements.
Provide daily programing that facilitates the stabilization of the individuals’ substance use and mental health symptoms, adherence to medication regimens, and connect to and/or participation in community based recovery supports.
Provide timely and accurate communication and coordination of care with other providers, such as DCF, Probation, and DPH, with signed consent.
Provide case management and engage in care consultation regarding specific individuals with identified collaterals with signed consent (e.g. relatives, social service agencies, housing authorities, health care providers, and vocational services providers, etc.).
Actively participate in training, group and individual supervision, and other professional development opportunities with the goal of continual development of clinical skills.
Provide crisis prevention and intervention, escalating to the appropriate party when assistance is needed (supervisor, AMCI team, etc.).
Serve as the program’s Access/CLAS Coordinator. Support the team in the evaluation, improvement planning, and implementation of efforts to ensure equitable access to services as required by 105 CMR 164.040(A)(11). Attend CLAS training.
Serve as the program’s HIV/AIDS/HEP C Coordinator. Oversee resident and staff education, risk assessment, access to counseling and testing, and standards of care. Attend PACNET meetings and relevant Bureau of Infectious Disease meetings, conferences and trainings.
Serve as the program’s Tobacco Education Coordinator (TEC). Oversees implementation of BSAS guidelines for integrating tobacco assessment, education, and treatment. Attend TEC meetings and trainings.
Serve as the program’s Human Rights Coordinator (HRC). Provides staff and residents with training on resident rights and grievance processes and serves as liaison to the agency’s human rights department.
