About The Position

Works under general supervision with residents to perform disciplinary hearings of infractions of the rules and/or to classify new arrivals and perform assessments and identify appropriate programs for individuals or groups. Pay Grade: 43 Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, sociology, criminal justice; or a closely related field; OR An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
PROOF OF EDUCATION; TRAINING; AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Ability to understand and withstand provocative behaviors.
Ability to maintain and establish a meaningful rapport with counselors, subordinates, and clients.
Ability to evaluate data from reports.
Ability to work with various support agencies in exchange for information and data.
Ability to use tact in problem situations.

Ability to make on-the-spot decisions.
Ability to conduct hearings and/or presentations
Must be able to function in a prison environment.
Must have a valid Tennessee Driver’s license or secure one upon date of employment.
Must pass NCIC background check.
Will be required to pass drug testing and TB screening.
Must be able to participate in annual in-service and other training programs as required.

Responsibilities

Reviews residents’ classification; checks status of residents and warrants; reviews pending charges and parole status; contacts other agencies regarding warrants, parole and probation status.
Conducts Administrative Fact-Finding hearings on reports issued to residents.
Prepares and signs all hearing reports including final decision, supporting documentation and specified or recommended disciplinary guidelines.
Communication with residents and staff regarding daily operations
Research existing policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, administrative decisions pertaining to cases heard.
Schedules hearings by reviewing violation reports; assembles documents for hearing.
Keeps logbooks, prepares and maintains standard records and reports.
Monitors safety practices by following SCDC policies and procedures.
Tracks disciplinary convictions of residents; conducts disciplinary reviews.
Interviews residents to identify program needs; reviews program credits and program reviews that result in sentencing credits.
Enters classification levels into OMSe.
Reviews resident’s movement/reclassification to move to higher or lower security housing.
Maintains all data in Corrections/YJEC internal computer system.
Research criminal history of residents using Corrections/YJEC data system.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
