About The Position

As a Corrections Counselor 2 with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you will help lead inmates through important steps that support growth and responsibility. You will work with individuals as they manage concerns, build new skills, and make plans for productive re-entry. This position allows you to use your talents to boost positive behavior, improve decision-making, and support strong partnerships inside the institution. Requirements

• Successful completion of the Corrections Counselor 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) training program
• One year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility, and a bachelor’s degree including 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field
• An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility and 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field
• Obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this job
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA
• Meet the PA residency requirement
• Be able to perform essential job functions
• Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements

Responsibilities

• Interview inmates, offer guidance, provide referrals, and support positive adjustment within the institution and community
• Develop records, prepare reports, manage caseload information, and communicate with families, agencies, and staff
• Analyze tests, compile histories, review evaluations, and maintain documentation for sentencing, planning, and re-entry
• Work with the Unit Team to plan programming, support behavioral goals, and participate in staffing discussions
• Assist with parole planning, recommend re-entry services, and secure identification and resources for release
