About The Position

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a dedicated Corrections Counselor 2 to support reentrants at the Harrisburg Community Corrections Center (CCC). This position gives you the chance to help individuals set goals, build confidence, and develop life skills. You will play a key role in guiding reentrants through challenges and connecting them with important community resources. Your support will help strengthen the program and the surrounding community.

Requirements

Successful completion of the Corrections Counselor 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) training program
One year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility, and a bachelor’s degree including 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field
An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility and 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field
Must obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this job
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required
Must meet the PA residency requirement
Must be able to perform essential job functions
Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements

Responsibilities

Assist reentrants in setting and achieving goals related to employment, training, education, housing, and community service
Provide crisis intervention, conduct assessments, and make referrals as needed
Conduct thorough orientation sessions and lead workshops, groups, and seminars focused on reentry success
Document progress, maintain electronic case files, and apply cognitive based interventions
Participate in discussions with partner agencies, connect reentrants with social services, and represent the center at community events
