About The Position

Alvarado Parkway Institute (API) is a free-standing psychiatric hospital in La Mesa, California with three Intensive Outpatient/Partial Hospitalization Programs. Alvarado Parkway Institute (API) provides comprehensive adult inpatient behavioral health and addictive disorders services in a 66-bed hospital setting located in La Mesa, California. API offers a variety of Outpatient Services designed to assist patients in functioning at the highest level. API provides Partial Hospitalization services and Intensive Outpatient services. These programs emphasize symptom management, community integration, and prevention of hospitalization or re-hospitalization. Value-added services enhance the patient's treatment experience. As a Counseling Trainee you will provide direct services to patients that are hospitalized due to currently experiencing acute mental health symptoms. These services include group and individual therapy, danger to self or to other assessments, addictive disorders assessments and developing behavior plans for patients engaging in harmful or self-destructive behaviors. Counseling Trainee will be provided with individual supervision, didactic training, and group supervision weekly.

Requirements

  • Must have an undergraduate degree.
  • Must be enrolled in a graduate degree program that is either a MA in Counseling, Psychology or Marriage and Family Therapy.
  • Must be enrolled in a practicum class at the same time you are accruing trainee hours for graduation.
  • 12-month commitment.
  • Required to be present 20 hours a week.
  • Completion of a satisfactory background and reference checks.
  • Employee signed employment non-compete/confidentiality agreement.
  • CPR certification if applicable to position.
  • Annual Flu vaccination is required.
  • Pass drug and alcohol test.
  • Clear TB skin test or Chest X-Ray.
  • Complete a satisfactory physical examination.
  • Comply with the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct services to patients hospitalized due to acute mental health symptoms.
  • Conduct group and individual therapy.
  • Perform danger to self or to other assessments.
  • Conduct addictive disorders assessments.
  • Develop behavior plans for patients engaging in harmful or self-destructive behaviors.
