About The Position

This is a classified position for a Counseling Secretary at Kearney Public Schools. The role involves extensive secretarial and computer duties to support the counseling department. The position is 35 hours per week, 1,498 hours per year, and 214 days per year, with FTE of .7202. Nebraska Public Employees Retirement System benefits are available.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Distribution of folders for teacher grade submission.
  • Entry of EOC student schedules.
  • Entry of manual grades and credit changes for EOC, AE, EA, independent studies, and student aides.
  • Entry of independent studies.
  • Powerschool entry.
  • Posting grades.
  • Credit changes.
  • Correcting schedules.
  • Completing grade verification and changes.
  • Printing report cards each term.
  • Calculating GPA and class rank.
  • Distributing information to counselors.
  • Tracking students with less than 20 credits per semester (SPED & Foreign Exchange Students).
  • Creating reports as requested.
  • Locating graduation dates for former students.
  • Sending and receiving reports during summer duties.
  • Shifting student files.
  • Entering summer school grades and credit.
  • Assisting with Summer Stampede.
  • E-mailing new senior class information to UNL.
  • Enrolling new and re-entry students.
  • Maintaining logs.
  • Assigning Bearcat Time (scheduling and modifying information).
  • Entering historical grades from previous schools.
  • Assisting new students with enrollment paperwork.
  • Entering incoming 9th grade student requests.
  • Processing exiting students.
  • Completing check-out sheets.
  • Sending school records to new schools as needed.
  • Verifying student exit codes.
  • Answering phones.
  • Providing backup for answering the door.
  • Verifying education.
  • Sending transcripts (for past graduates).
  • Notarizing documents.
  • Printing grades.
  • Completing forms for insurance companies.
  • Providing GPA / class rank to students and parents.
  • Assisting students and parents with Powerschool access and schedules.
  • Completing Social Security forms.
  • Providing proof of enrollment letters.
  • Receiving transcript fees and drafting deposits.
  • Providing information for various military branches.
  • Assisting with upcoming school year registration.
  • Preparation of new student packets.
  • Maintaining office supplies.
  • Compiling student data and completing Omaha World Herald Applications.
  • Sending out counselor passes.
  • Preparing mid-term and end-of-the year check-out sheets.
