Counsel will work on complex, fast-moving litigation in defense of key constitutional rights and values. Counsel 1’s responsibilities will include (1) litigating in high-impact constitutional cases and producing public education and policy materials related to ICAP’s work, and (2) working to meaningfully and materially integrate Georgetown Law practicum students into those efforts. In particular, Counsel will engage in factual development and legal research to assist in crafting constitutional impact litigation strategies in close coordination with the Institute’s Executive Director, Legal Director, Supreme Court Director, and other ICAP attorneys. Additionally, drawing on previous legal experience, Counsel will carefully draft, revise, and edit briefing materials to be filed in court pertaining to those cases; will assist in mooting the advocates presenting and arguing the cases; and may have opportunities to present and argue cases at the trial court and appellate levels. Counsel may assume the lead role in appropriate individual cases, subject to the supervision of ICAP’s Directors. Counsel will also be expected to contribute to researching and developing public education materials and policy solutions related to ICAP’s work. Counsel will closely support Directors in working with students enrolled in a practicum seminar designed to involve Georgetown Law students in understanding constitutional impact litigation and in contributing to ICAP's work. Counsel will formulate assignments appropriate for the students, oversee completion of those assignments, and provide substantive feedback to the students.
