About The Position

Airwallex is seeking a Counsel, Product Legal to serve as the embedded legal partner to its Yield Product team as the product scales across existing and new markets. The role addresses legal and regulatory questions spanning product design, partner arrangements, customer documentation, and launch execution. The counsel will provide support from product ideation and design through launch, market expansion, and ongoing product changes. They will advise on requirements for launching Yield or equivalent products in new jurisdictions, working with local regulatory colleagues and external counsel, and translate cross-jurisdictional requirements into practical product decisions, customer terms, disclosures, and launch-readiness materials. The role will build relationships with Product, Regulatory Legal, Regulatory Compliance, Licensing, Risk, Product Marketing, Operations, and regulated partners. It will also develop scalable legal playbooks, launch checklists, governance processes, and repeatable approaches to support efficient expansion while managing local risk. The position works across jurisdictions and time zones, including with colleagues and product leaders in Australia, and is based in the San Francisco or New York office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Requirements

  • JD or equivalent law degree and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • At least 5 years of post-qualification legal experience, including experience at a top-tier law firm or in a comparable financial-services legal environment.
  • Experience advising on investment products, wealth management, discretionary or non-discretionary investment management, broker-dealer arrangements, custodial relationships, investment-management structures, or related customer disclosures and documentation.
  • Strong regulatory advisory and product counseling experience with a reputable law firm, financial institution, or fintech, including meaningful experience advising on wealth-management products.
  • Experience advising on licensing or the establishment of investment services, ideally including a U.S. broker-dealer or FINRA-regulated service, or an equivalent arrangement in another jurisdiction.
  • Track record of working strategically with non-lawyers and translating legal and regulatory requirements into practical, commercially minded solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, including the ability to work with Product, Compliance, Risk, Operations, Marketing, external counsel, regulated partners, and senior stakeholders across jurisdictions.
  • Ability to manage complex cross-jurisdictional legal workstreams, prioritize competing demands, and own advice from product ideation through launch and expansion.
  • Curiosity and learning agility, with willingness to understand unfamiliar regulatory frameworks, markets, and customer needs.

Nice To Haves

  • In-house legal experience in fintech, financial services, wealth management, asset management, securities, brokerage, or another regulated financial-services environment.
  • Experience working with banks, broker-dealers, custodians, investment managers, or other regulated partners.
  • Experience across securities, investment-adviser, investor-protection, fiduciary, suitability, or equivalent regulatory frameworks in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience building scalable legal playbooks, product-governance processes, launch checklists, or other tools that improve legal efficiency.
  • Experience supporting product launches or market expansion across Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Netherlands, the United States, or other relevant markets.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving, product-led environment with high standards, evolving priorities, and incomplete information.

Responsibilities

  • Own legal support for the global Yield Product team, from product design and ideation through launch, market expansion, and ongoing product changes.
  • Advise on legal and regulatory requirements for launching Yield or equivalent products in new jurisdictions, coordinating with local regulatory colleagues and external counsel.
  • Translate complex cross-jurisdictional requirements into practical product decisions, including product requirements, customer terms, disclosures, and launch-readiness materials.
  • Build trusted relationships with Product, Regulatory Legal, Regulatory Compliance, Licensing, Risk, Product Marketing, Operations, and regulated partners.
  • Develop scalable legal playbooks, launch checklists, governance processes, and repeatable approaches to support efficient expansion while minimizing local risk.
  • Coordinate legal advice across the United States, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Europe, and other relevant markets, including across time zones.
