About The Position

As a member of Travelers’ Contracts & Technology Legal Group, the successful candidate will be involved in all facets of commercial contracting issues, serving as lead counsel on strategic technology, vendor and other commercial transactions, including a growing portfolio of artificial intelligence, data governance, and emerging technology matters. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day advice, resolve issues that arise out of existing commercial relationships and identify opportunities to improve how legal support is delivered. The ability to think strategically, creatively and exercise sound, practical judgment is essential. Travelers offers a hybrid work location model that is designed to support flexibility.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent International legal degree; graduate of an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 3 years of prior legal experience.
  • Active license to practice law in the state(s) in which representation is required.
  • Depth of experience with complex commercial contracts, including technology, data licensing, data protection agreements, large language models/generative AI, and cloud related issues.
  • Sound judgment and good business sense, including the ability to provide advice based on a nuanced understanding of the business.
  • Superior written and oral communications skills, including drafting and negotiating.
  • Enthusiasm for applying AI and technology to legal work as part of a data-informed legal team.
  • Ability to work autonomously and efficiently in a challenging, fast-paced environment.
  • Possess a strong client service focus and solutions-oriented, self-starter, can-do mentality.
  • Ability to grow in the role and assume increasing levels of responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Structure, review, draft and negotiate sophisticated and complex technology-related, cloud, software, outsourcing, strategic alliances, marketing, content and data license and other agreements, including those relating to professional services, consulting, software licensing, software as a service, and artificial intelligence.
  • Maintain awareness of and provide strategic direction and legal advice to business partners regarding complex legal issues, including data licensing, cloud, artificial intelligence, and other new and emerging technologies.
  • Advise on contract interpretation and dispute resolution.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve both the efficiency and quality of legal support.
  • Develop and revise templates, training materials and other documents useful as part of contracting.
  • Exhibit thought leadership and initiative and be able to work quickly and collaboratively while managing deadlines.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business partners and other staff across the legal department.
  • Successfully manage outside counsel.
  • Make effective use of technology, automation and AI in the practice of law.
