About The Position

This PRN (As Needed) position in an Outpatient Clinic involves assisting in the treatment of patients under the direction of an Occupational Therapist. The role requires participation as an active member of the treatment team, adherence to the Village's mission and values, and completion of required training. The COTA will provide direct patient treatment, instruct families and staff in maintenance programs, communicate patient progress to the team, and educate patients and families on the therapy plan of care. Documentation, charging, and maintaining the treatment area and equipment are also key responsibilities. The position may also involve community-based services, in-service training, and adherence to safety regulations. Handling stress, getting along with others, and maintaining workplace conduct are essential interpersonal aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as Occupational Therapist Assistant is required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Licensed Occupational Therapist Assistant in Missouri and/or nationally certified is required.
  • Current valid driver’s license is required with proof of insurance.
  • Basic level knowledge of Microsoft operating system and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities at the same time.
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

  • Prior experience in Occupational Therapy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides treatment to patients as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Instructs families and staff in maintenance programs as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Communicates with supervisor and other interdisciplinary team members regarding patient progress, problems and plans.
  • Communicates with the patients and responsible parties concerning the treatment program.
  • Teaches patient and families regarding therapy plan of care.
  • Participates in patient-care conferences and weekly rehabilitation meetings.
  • Maintains treatment documentation and charges for each patient in compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Assists with cleaning and maintenance of treatment area and department.
  • Ensures proper operation of equipment by complying with company procedures and following manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Provides community-based services such as health and wellness activities as required.
  • Participates in facility in-service training programs.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
