About The Position

Under the general supervision of the faculty costume designer, the Costume Shop Lead Technician is responsible for the leadership, coordination and planning of the day-to-day operations of the costume shop, including its machines, work spaces and costume stock. The Shop Lead also demonstrates sewing techniques and directs the activities of laboratory-students in the costume shop. This position provides lead work oversight of costume shop staff, student assistants and laboratory students.

Requirements

Four years of related experience working for a theater, repertory or stock company engaged in costume construction, stage and set construction, lighting production, and/or sound/audio production and completion of professional training or college coursework.
Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses in a related field may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and prepare detailed written information.
Plan, organize, and schedule activities.
Ability to create and maintain program records and provide data for review in developing and implementing strategies to meet programmatic goals and enhance processes.
Ability to conduct research to develop a comprehensive knowledge of costume design.
Ability to support classroom instruction by performing classroom demonstrations related to the daily operation of production in the costume shop.
Ability to work with faculty, provide training, oversee day-to-day operations and provide lead work direction to students involved in productions.
