About The Position

Withum's National Tax Services Group is seeking a Cost Segregation Consultant to join their brilliant team of tax specialists. This role involves ensuring accurate and timely tax reporting obligations and minimizing tax payments. The team possesses a comprehensive understanding of international, US federal, state, and local regulations, and leverages their affiliation with HLB International to develop economical tax strategies globally. Services include Business, Individual, State & Local tax, R&D Tax Credit, Cost Segregation, International, and Private Client services. As a cost segregation professional, you will report to the leader of the Cost Segregation practice and collaborate with seasoned professionals and industry leaders. You will be involved in all aspects of engagements and responsible for building and maintaining client relationships. Requirements

  • 2+ years experience in the construction field
  • A working knowledge of IRS code sections, court cases, revenue rulings and other tax citations related to cost segregation
  • Strong understanding of construction design and processes as well as depreciation, in order to determine the appropriate tax lives for building assets in accordance with IRS standards
  • Knowledge of real estate appraisals and valuations
  • A strong working knowledge of RS Means Cost Estimator and Marshall & Swift and/or Planswift or similar blueprint reading/estimating software
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills - Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% of the year to project sites

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or electrical, mechanical or civil engineering preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performing physical site inspections of properties to take detailed notes, sketches, or measurements and photographing various components for IRS audit substantiation.
  • Analyzing construction general ledgers, contractor payment applications, and other cost/financial documentation, and reconciling information to accounting records.
  • Reading, interpreting, and estimating take-off quantities from blueprints and other cost information provided by clients.
  • Preparing schedules that support findings in accordance with IRS standards.
  • Meeting client expectations by adhering to pre-established deadlines.
