About The Position

Reporting to the Director, Development Advisory, we are hiring a Cost Consultant to join our Atlantic St John’s based team. As our new Cost Consultant, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality estimating and project monitoring services across a range of construction and development projects. Working closely with clients, contractors, lenders, and internal teams, you will support accurate cost planning, change order reviews, progress draw assessments, and ongoing project reporting that will help drive informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. This is a remote role with the expectation that you will be travelling to client sites 1-2 days per week anywhere in the Newfoundland and Labrador region.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Architectural Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Building Science, Construction, or a related discipline. Equivalent education and international quantity surveying backgrounds will also be considered.
  • Strong understanding of construction principles, drawings, specifications, and project documentation within the construction and development industry.
  • Experience in estimating, quantity surveying, cost consulting, project monitoring, or construction cost management.
  • Comfortable preparing quantity take-offs, supporting detailed and conceptual cost estimates, reviewing change orders, and contributing to project reporting and cost analysis activities across different stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Detail-oriented and comfortable working with drawings, pricing, quantities, contracts, and project documentation.
  • Ability to analyze information critically, maintain accuracy under deadlines, and balance multiple priorities while contributing to consistent and high-quality project deliverables.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior consultants, contractors, suppliers, lenders, consultants, and clients in a collaborative and professional environment.
  • Ability to ask thoughtful questions, communicate clearly, and contribute positively to discussions related to project scope, pricing, market conditions, and construction activities.
  • Dependable, proactive, and responsive in how you approach your work.
  • Comfortable working independently within a remote and field-based environment while remaining collaborative, organized, and client-focused.
  • Take pride in producing accurate work, building trusted relationships, and contributing to a team culture grounded in integrity, accountability, and high-quality service delivery.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) or Construction Estimator Certified (CEC) designation with CIQS is preferred.
  • Candidates actively working toward their designation will also be considered.
  • Experience with CostX, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, and related construction or estimating software is considered a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver estimating and project monitoring services across active construction projects.
  • Prepare conceptual and detailed cost estimates, complete quantity take-offs, review drawings and contract documentation, and contribute to accurate project costing across a range of developments.
  • Conduct site visits, review contractor progress claims, assess change orders, and help maintain accurate project documentation throughout the lifecycle of a project.
  • Build relationships and contribute to project delivery.
  • Work closely with senior consultants, contractors, suppliers, lenders, and clients to support budgeting, cost validation, reporting, and project oversight activities.
  • Through market research, pricing validation, project discussions, and ongoing collaboration, help deliver responsive, accurate, and high-quality consulting services across the Atlantic region.
  • Develop broad consulting and construction expertise.
  • Gain hands-on exposure across both estimating and monitoring disciplines while working alongside experienced Cost Consultants and industry leaders.
  • Take on increasing responsibility, contribute to more complex projects, and continue building technical, client-facing, and consulting capabilities within a growing Atlantic Canada practice.
