About The Position

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company is the largest provider of dredging services in the United States, with a long history of performing significant international projects. The Company employs experienced civil, ocean and mechanical engineering staff in its estimating, production, and project management functions. In its over 136-year history, the Company has never failed to complete a marine project. Great Lakes owns and operates the largest and most diverse fleet in the U.S. dredging industry, comprised of approximately 200 specialized vessels. Great Lakes has a disciplined training program for engineers that ensures experienced-based performance as they advance through Company operations. At GLDD, cost estimators serve a pivotal role in planning, design, and pricing of bids for future work. As a GLDD Cost Estimator you will design execution plans and develop cost estimates for large-scale dredging projects, with the guidance and support of a team with decades of dredging experience. This position also provides a high-level of exposure to executive management with various growth opportunities. The position reports to the Vice President of Estimating.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management – or equivalent and relevant work experience
  • Must possess at least one of the following:
  • 3 years of relevant experience in the dredging and/or marine construction industry
  • 5 years of relevant experience in a cost estimating position in a comparable industry
  • Proficient in standard Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Effective communicator and attentive listener with excellent attention to detail
  • Self-starter, willing to learn, and capable of managing multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Capacity to evaluate complex data, weigh potential solutions, and make informed decisions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for senior management reporting

Nice To Haves

  • Analytical experience utilizing PowerBi or similar software is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate cost estimates for hard bid projects
  • Review and summarize key elements of project plans and specifications
  • Ability to produce clear, concise overview drawings for presentation and discussions
  • Ability to present the project and estimate during bid review sessions with senior management
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability in the development of the estimate
  • Work closely with various support departments in a team environment
  • Capable of effective time-management, able to prioritize various project tasks simultaneously.
  • Offer estimating support to on-site Project Managers during execution of project
  • Update and monitor project costs, production, and budget throughout construction.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
