About The Position

This position is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for projects within the Precast Concrete Division. The Cost Estimator analyzes project plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine material, labor, equipment, and production costs while ensuring estimates align with company standards and profitability objectives. This role collaborates with Sales, Drafting, Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Project Management to support successful project bidding, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. Accurate cost analysis, and cross-functional communication are central to the success of this position.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, architectural plans, engineering specifications, and bid documents.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing material, labor, and equipment cost estimates.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Nice To Haves

  • Three to five years of estimating experience in precast concrete, construction, manufacturing, or a related industry preferred.
  • Experience using estimating software, ERP systems, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar construction estimating tools is preferred.
  • Experience estimating precast concrete, architectural concrete, site furnishings, or custom concrete products.
  • Knowledge of precast manufacturing processes, production methods, and installation practices.
  • Experience with ERP systems, CAD software, Bluebeam, or other construction estimating platforms.
  • Understanding of PCI standards, specifications, and industry best practices.
  • Experience with public works, commercial construction, or DOT projects.
  • Familiarity with value engineering and cost optimization strategies.
  • Manufacturing or construction industry experience.
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for precast concrete products and custom project opportunities.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, bid documents, and customer requirements to determine project scope and pricing.
  • Calculate material, labor, equipment, freight, and production costs for estimates.
  • Develop detailed quotations and proposals that align with company pricing standards and customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Drafting, Production, and Purchasing to evaluate project feasibility, constructability, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Obtain and evaluate vendor and supplier quotations to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
  • Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and value engineering opportunities during the estimating process.
  • Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, and pricing records to support continuous improvement.
  • Respond to customer questions regarding estimates, project scope, and pricing clarifications.
  • Participate in project turnover meetings to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to production and project execution.
  • Monitor bid opportunities and ensure estimates are completed accurately and submitted within established deadlines.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to enhance estimating processes, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Execute company policies that align with strong core values and organizational objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
