About The Position

The Cost Estimating Specialist creates cost estimates for new business proposals. This involves reviewing the scope of work and project requirements, analyzing historical data, and collaborating with other functions to gather necessary inputs. The role supports the proposal through internal approval processes and customer negotiations. The specialist will interface with internal departments and may interact with Government agencies or customers. This position can be located in Colchester, Vermont or Saco, Maine. The role requires working knowledge and experience in its discipline, broadening capabilities, and building knowledge of the company, processes, and customers. It involves performing a range of assignments using prescribed guidelines and policies, with a moderate level of guidance and direction, and consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 2-4 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops cost estimates for projects based on work scope, specifications, and contract proposals using applicable estimating methodologies and tools.
  • Analyzes project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements.
  • Uses benchmark data, trends, prior estimates, and historical pricing schedules to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations.
  • May use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates, depending on the complexity and type of project.
  • Supports proposal through internal approval cycles and customer negotiations.
  • Interfaces with other internal functions, and may interface with Government agencies, or customers.
