About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada's largest private sector nuclear engineering groups, with over 60 years of experience serving the nuclear industry globally and as the steward of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology. This role involves assisting in the setup and maintenance of assigned projects within the cost control system, tracking performance, and reporting on project status throughout its lifecycle according to company procedures. The Cost Controller will support the monitoring and maintenance of project cost accounts, including opening/closing activities, and help identify potential issues impacting cost or schedule, escalating them as needed. The position requires preparing and updating cost reports for monthly reporting, analyzing project cost status and variances, and contributing to corrective actions. Support will also be provided for tracking project time and budgets, basic variance analysis, client reporting, cash flow forecasting, and the change management process. The role involves highlighting areas of concern, coordinating with other Project Controls team members, working with planners on progress and estimate-to-complete data, and collaborating with the Financial Shared Services Centre (FSSC) for invoice preparation and review. Additionally, the Cost Controller will assist in preparing earned value and progress reports, support cost risk analysis, perform commitment tracking for purchase orders, assist with monthly accruals, and support periodic forecast preparations. Ad hoc reports and special assignments will also be part of the responsibilities, along with contributing to system implementation efforts under guidance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Typically 3–5 years of cost control or project controls experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Basic understanding of cost control principles, including accruals (client/vendor).
  • Willingness to learn new tools and systems.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with supervision.
  • Basic understanding of project controls processes and procedures.
  • Clear communication and reporting skills.
  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting up and maintaining assigned projects in the cost control system.
  • Track and report performance throughout the project lifecycle in line with company procedures.
  • Support the monitoring and maintenance of project cost accounts, including assisting with opening/closing activities.
  • Help identify potential issues impacting project cost or schedule and escalate to senior team members or Manager.
  • Prepare and update cost reports at the end of each reporting period to support monthly reporting requirements.
  • Assist in analyzing project cost status and variances, and contribute to identifying corrective actions.
  • Support tracking of project time and budgets, including basic variance analysis.
  • Provide support for client reporting in line with contract requirements.
  • Assist in preparing project cash flow forecasts.
  • Support the change management process by tracking and recording changes.
  • Highlight areas of concern to senior team members that may impact project objectives.
  • Coordinate with other Project Controls team members to maintain consistent cost and schedule data.
  • Work with planners to update progress information and contribute to estimate-to-complete data.
  • Collaborate with Financial Shared Services Centre (FSSC) to support invoice preparation and review.
  • Assist in preparing earned value and progress reports, including basic variance identification.
  • Support cost risk analysis activities as required.
  • Perform commitment tracking for purchase orders (POs).
  • Assist with monthly accruals preparation and analysis.
  • Support preparation of periodic forecasts (monthly/quarterly/yearly).
  • Provide support on ad hoc reports and special assignments as required.
  • Contribute to system implementation efforts (e.g., ECOSYS) under guidance.
