About The Position

The Cost Accounting Specialist manages day-to-day cost accounting functions, including production entry review and reconciliation, costing and inventory exception reviews, general ledger activities, accounting reports, and accounts payable tasks. The role investigates variances, helps maintain accurate inventories, reconciles inventory balances, reports product losses, creates journal entries as needed, and researches and approves invoices related to materials, ingredients, packaging, and recurring or annual services.

Requirements

• Prior accounting experience, preferably in cost accounting.
• Ability to think critically and logically.
• Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally, including with management staff, to achieve desired outcomes.
• Demonstrated initiative.
• Demonstrated reliable attendance.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and email.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Oracle Financials or another accounts payable-related system.
• Experience with QAD or another cost accounting system.
• Experience with perpetual inventory systems.
• Experience in food manufacturing or a related environment.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, and reconcile daily production entries, including investigation of variances.
• Manage in-transit locations and shipments to other plants and warehouses.
• Review daily costing and inventory exception reports, working with team members and applications to maintain accurate inventories.
• Perform general ledger activities, including reporting and explaining product losses, inventory balancing and reconciliation, period close, and creating journal entries as needed.
• Create and distribute accounting reports as necessary, such as yield reporting and product write-offs.
• Research and approve accounts payable invoices related to receipts of raw materials, packages, ingredients, and other recurring or annual services.
