About The Position

The Accountant II is responsible for splitting their time to support the company’s financial record-keeping and reporting requirements and ensuring compliance with US GAAP, corporate policies and procedures and common ethical practices; and is responsible for supporting cost accounting functions including standard costing, variance analysis, inventory valuation, and manufacturing cost reporting in compliance with US GAAP and corporate policies. This position will work closely with other members of the Finance and Accounting team to drive company and department success while enhancing their own personal development. Heska is a fast-paced environment and the job will require a strong work ethic, constant attention to detail and deadlines and the ability to learn quickly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Minimum of 2 year of accounting related experience required
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • Proven ability to be part of a diverse accounting team
  • Must maintain a positive attitude at all times
  • Excellent customer service skills and professionalism including patience, ability to listen and to follow up effectively with all staffing levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year of cost accounting or manufacturing accounting experience preferred
  • Experience at a publicly traded company and/or public accounting experience preferred
  • NetSuite or other ERP experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and updates standard costs for raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods in the ERP system.
  • Analyzes manufacturing variances (purchase price, usage, labor, and overhead) and prepares detailed variance reports with explanations for management review.
  • Performs monthly inventory valuation and reconciles inventory sub-ledger balances to the general ledger, investigating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Supports the annual standard cost roll and periodic cost updates, coordinating with Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain to ensure accuracy of Bills of Materials and routings.
  • Prepares cost of goods sold (COGS) analysis and supports monthly and quarterly close activities including journal entries related to inventory, overhead absorption, and cost variances.
  • Assists with physical inventory counts and cycle count programs, reconciling count results and investigating variances above established thresholds.
  • Develops and maintains cost accounting reports and dashboards to support business decision-making, including product profitability analysis and cost trend reporting.
  • Partners with Operations and Supply Chain teams to identify cost reduction opportunities and supports make-vs-buy and other cost-benefit analyses as requested.
  • Supports internal and external audit requests related to inventory, COGS, and manufacturing costs, including preparation of audit schedules and documentation of cost accounting policies and procedures.
  • Executes monthly accounting close procedures as assigned including reconciliations, journal entries, financial analysis and reporting and accounting and system research
  • Assists with the preparation of daily, monthly and quarterly reports to internal and external stakeholders
  • Supports audits by compiling data and documentation for accounting transactions and balances
  • Daily, weekly and monthly account analysis to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Ensures compliance with internal controls and accounting processes and documents standard operating procedures
  • Provides general assistance to others in the Accounting department as needed
  • Supports capital expenditure (Capex) tracking and reporting, including maintaining the fixed asset subledger, recording asset additions and disposals, and ensuring depreciation schedules are accurate and run timely in accordance with company policy and US GAAP
