About The Position

Gates is a leading manufacturer of application-specific fluid power and power transmission solutions. We push the boundaries of material science to engineer solutions that continually exceed customer expectations. This role is responsible for maintaining financial records, ensuring accuracy of financial transactions, preparing financial reports, and analyzing costs and revenues to predict future financial performance. The Cost Accountant will play a key role in analyzing material cost changes, managing BOMs and routes, preparing inventory reports, and reconciling inventory to the General Ledger. This position also involves processing journal entries and completing month-end reporting for cost of production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 2 – 5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, organization skills, work ethic, and high level of integrity required
  • Strong team player; proactively able to step in to support other team members as needed and share knowledge to allow cross training of all functions, builds collaborative relationships
  • Must be able to work well under pressure, effectively handle conflict, and demonstrate flexibility in work style to accommodate changing priorities and fixed deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively and independently
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Suite, specifically Excel and using complex formulas, pivot tables, and macros
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada on a permanent basis without sponsorship

Nice To Haves

  • preferred cost accounting/accounts payable experience
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Epicor or CMS experience a plus
  • Strong proficiency with ERP/Financial systems

Responsibilities

  • Maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded.
  • Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
  • Prepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports.
  • Analyzes current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
  • Understands key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work.
  • Solves standard problems by analyzing possible solutions using experience, judgment and precedents.
  • Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team; works within guidelines and policies.
  • Explains information to others in straight forward situations.
  • Analyze the Material Cost proposed changes by investigating and documenting the driving factors, ensuring they are aligned to the Budget Costs – document the review and prepare supporting documentation.
  • Create and update BOMs, Routes, and associated costing activities for new and existing part numbers.
  • Prepare weekly inventory reporting of Raw/WIP/MRO Inventory and daily production to-stock reporting.
  • Prepare and reconcile month-end inventory reports to the General Ledger.
  • Process the associated journal entries including preparation, recording and collection of supporting documentation.
  • Complete the final month-end to-stock reporting and prepare the associated Cost of Production journal entries including preparation, recording, and collection of supporting documentation.
