About The Position

iWorkforce Solutions is seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our team in Houston, TX. This role is responsible for ensuring proper standard cost accounting methods are maintained for inventory, while providing vital financial support to operational and supply chain teams. The Cost Accountant will oversee all cost-related accounting functions and report directly to the Campus Controller.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Standard Cost Accounting, Monthly Close, and Production Reporting (Variable Cost, Productivity, Staffing).
  • Experience with financial forecasting and budgeting processes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (advanced Excel preferred).
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and statutory accounting concepts and principles.
  • Relentless drive for continuous process improvement.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset and dedication to achieving business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial reporting related to income statements and balance sheets.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of operational reporting and prepare ad-hoc reports for management as needed.
  • Reconcile and analyze monthly standard margins and sales data.
  • Manage all aspects of standard cost accounting for local products and inventory.
  • Create and maintain budget and forecasting activities for inventory balances and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS).
  • Responsible for quarterly Excess & Obsolete (E&O) reserve calculations.
  • Assist with annual physical inventory counts.
  • Prepare monthly closing journal entries, make adjustments to financial records, and complete month-end financial statements.
  • Perform monthly general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Support the general accounting team with fixed assets, payables, and receivables related to cost issues.
  • Monitor capital projects from inception through completion.
  • Support compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) program.
  • Serve as a key financial business partner to leadership, operations, and supply chain teams.
  • Continuously monitor and analyze department workflows to develop more efficient processes, procedures, and optimal resource utilization.
  • Execute special projects to improve process efficiency and overall performance as assigned.
  • Provide support and guidance to accounting staff to resolve issues with minimal supervision.
