About The Position

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking to fill the Cosmetology Instructor position. The licensed Cosmetology Instructor is responsible for delivering comprehensive cosmetology education and hands-on training to incarcerated students in preparation for state licensure and successful employment in the beauty industry. This position develops engaging instructional experiences aligned with state board requirements, industry standards, and current salon practices while fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. The instructor supports student achievement through classroom instruction, practical demonstrations, mentorship, and career readiness preparation.

  • Must complete all required driver training and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks
  • Must maintain acceptable driving records
  • Must take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter
  • Must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Delivers classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction in cosmetology theory and practical applications
  • Teaches core cosmetology subjects including hair cutting, coloring, chemical services, skincare, nail technology, sanitation, and salon professionalism
  • Develops and updates lesson plans, instructional materials, and hands-on activities aligned with state licensing requirements and industry trends
  • Incorporates modern cosmetology techniques, products, and technology into instructional delivery
  • Provides individualized academic and practical support to students with diverse learning needs
  • Monitors student attendance, progress, and completion rates to support successful program outcomes
  • Prepares students for state board examinations and entry-level employment opportunities
  • Ensures adherence to sanitation, infection control, and workplace safety standards in all instructional settings
  • Monitors proper use and maintenance of cosmetology tools, equipment, and supplies in accordance with facility regulations
  • Maintains inventory of classroom and salon materials and coordinates supply needs as necessary
  • Maintains current knowledge of cosmetology trends, techniques, products, and state licensing requirements
  • Builds relationships with salons, spas, beauty professionals, and industry partners to support student career placement opportunities
  • Maintains knowledge of correctional education best practices, offender rehabilitation principles, and applicable Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) policies and procedures
  • Maintains accurate student records, including attendance, grades, practical hours, and licensing documentation in accordance with ADCRR requirements
  • Completes required reports and documentation in accordance with school policies and accreditation standards
  • Assists with student enrollment, orientation, and retention efforts as needed
  • Communicates regularly with leadership regarding student progress and instructional needs
  • Assists with required institutional reporting and documentation related to offender education and program outcomes
  • Drives on State business
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
