About The Position

Level 2 Learning Assistants assist student success in the College of Science in multiple settings. The role involves working with students in group learning settings with LA Faculty present, preparing for facilitation by meeting with course faculty and reviewing course materials, and other duties such as independent office hours or review sessions, mentoring Level 1 LAs, and facilitating LA interviews or LA Program events.

Requirements

• Academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
• Meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
• Meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard (High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program; Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term; Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term; Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term; Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term)
• Successful completion of disciplinary courses (ie: PH 201, BI 221) or equivalent by start date.
• Successful completion of Learning Assistant Pedagogy Course or equivalent by start date
• Prior COS Level 1 experience or equivalent
• Applied and been accepted to become a Learning Assistant through the OSU LA Application

Responsibilities

• Working with students in group learning settings with LA Faculty present (ie: classrooms, help sessions, office hours, online)
• Preparing for facilitation by meeting with course faculty, reviewing/completing course materials, training for being an LA (one time orientation)
• Other duties (ie: independent office hours or review sessions, mentoring Level1 LAs, facilitating LA interviews or LA Program events such as LA orientation, etc.)
