About The Position

The Gas Transmission Corrosion Technician performs a variety of 49 CFR 192 compliance tasks on the gas transmission & storage system with the main focus being corrosion control. This role requires knowledge of corrosion fundamentals and the ability to inspect, monitor, and remediate atmospheric, external, and internal corrosion on NWE pipelines. The technician will become proficient in performing various cathodic assessment surveys, familiar with ILI assessments, and understand the requirements for installing and maintaining cathodic bonds. Additionally, the role involves familiarity with cathodic electrical isolation, AC inspections and mitigation, and the skills to build, inspect, install, and maintain rectifiers, ground beds, cathodic anode junction boxes, remote monitors, coupon test stations, and pipeline test stations. The position also requires proficiency in data collection, analysis, and maintenance within the American Innovations PCS database, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, codes, policies, and procedures. Travel to all areas of the gas system is expected, with overnight stays as needed, up to 50% per year. Training will be conducted outside the designated work location and may require additional travel for up to the first 3 years. The ability to maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is essential. This position requires performing individual lifting and manipulating of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds and various other physical activities in a variety of weather extremes. Requirements

  • Knowledge of corrosion fundamentals.
  • Ability to inspect, monitor, and remediate atmospheric, external, and internal corrosion on NWE pipelines.
  • Familiarity with ILI assessments and verification of anomalies in the field.
  • Comprehension on the requirements, assessment and ability to install and maintain cathodic bonds.
  • Familiarity with cathodic electrical isolation, AC inspections and mitigation.
  • Knowledge and physical skills in building, inspecting, installing and maintaining rectifiers and ground beds.
  • Build, inspect, install and maintain cathodic, anode junction boxes, remote monitors, coupon test stations and pipeline test stations.
  • Ability to independently think and identify efficiencies and process improvements that helps the group.
  • Proficient in data collection, data retention, assessment of data, data analysis, and data maintenance within the American Innovations PCS database.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable regulations, codes, policies, and procedures.
  • Must have the ability and be willing to obtain AMPP/NACE level I, II, III, and IV certifications.

  • Must obtain AMPP CP1 (if not already obtained) within 12 months of hiring date.
  • Meet and maintain "Operator Qualification" standards.

  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience or training in corrosion control preferred.
  • Current AMPP/NACE certification is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and electricity systems is a plus.
  • Get Into Energy - Energy Industry Fundamental 2.0 certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of 49 CFR 192 compliance tasks on the gas transmission & storage system with the main focus being corrosion control.
  • Inspect, monitor, and remediate atmospheric, external, and internal corrosion on NWE pipelines.
  • Become proficient in performing cathodic assessment surveys, such as: pipe to soil, atmospheric, CIS, ACVG, DCVG, coating conductance, Current Mapping, Soil Resistivity, and leak detection.
  • Verify anomalies in the field related to ILI assessments.
  • Comprehend requirements, assess, and install/maintain cathodic bonds.
  • Gain familiarity with cathodic electrical isolation, AC inspections, and mitigation.
  • Build, inspect, install, and maintain rectifiers and ground beds.
  • Build, inspect, install, and maintain cathodic anode junction boxes, remote monitors, coupon test stations, and pipeline test stations.
  • Independently identify efficiencies and process improvements.
  • Collect, retain, assess, analyze, and maintain data within the American Innovations PCS database.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable regulations, codes, policies, and procedures.
  • Travel to all areas of the gas system, potentially up to 50% per year with overnight stays.
  • Obtain AMPP/NACE level I, II, III, and IV certifications.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Perform individual lifting and manipulating of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
