About The Position

Gas Transmission Corrosion Technician performs a variety of 49 CFR 192 compliance tasks on the gas transmission & storage system with the main focus being corrosion control.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of corrosion fundamentals.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and electricity systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet and maintain "Operator Qualification" standards.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience or training in corrosion control.
  • Current AMPP/NACE certification.
  • Get Into Energy - Energy Industry Fundamental 2.0 certification.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, monitor and remediate atmospheric, external, and internal corrosion on NWE pipelines.
  • Perform cathodic assessment surveys, such as: pipe to soil, atmospheric, CIS, ACVG, DCVG, coating conductance, Current Mapping, Soil Resistivity, and leak detection.
  • Verify anomalies in the field related to ILI assessments.
  • Install and maintain cathodic bonds.
  • Perform AC inspections and mitigation.
  • Build, inspect, install and maintain rectifiers and ground beds.
  • Build, inspect, install and maintain cathodic, anode junction boxes, remote monitors, coupon test stations and pipeline test stations.
  • Independently think and identify efficiencies and process improvements that helps the group.
  • Collect, retain, assess, analyze, and maintain data within the American Innovations PCS database.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable regulations, codes, policies, and procedures.
  • Travel to all areas of the gas system can be expected with overnight stay as needed up to 50% per year.
  • Undergo training which will be conducted in areas outside of the designated work location and may require additional travel for up to the first 3 years.
  • Adhere to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct & Ethics.
  • Ensure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission and strategic business objectives.
