Requirements

  • Over six years’ experience in gas distribution operations, maintenance, or construction, including at least four years’ experience performing corrosion testing and troubleshooting OR equivalent combination of education/training and experience.
  • NACE CP1 Tester Certification is required.
  • Valid Driver's license with ability to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug/alcohol test(s), background check(s) and physicals.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Cathodic protection, or leak survey.
  • NACE CP1 Technician certification or higher preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a personal computer and associated software.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze large datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate tactfully with company personnel and customers.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, without supervision and/or with others.
  • Ability to manage department programs and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs test stations, magnesium anode systems and impressed current systems on gas mains and services.
  • Obtains necessary data and makes calculations for the design, operation, monitoring and adjustment of the cathodic protection facilities on gas distribution system.
  • Performs walking, mobile and indoor gas leak surveys.
  • On call for major gas and electric emergency events.
  • Designs cathodic protection systems.
  • Works with other department personnel to determine appropriate action to correct and minimize corrosion control related problems.
  • Installs, operates and repairs cathodic protection facilities.
  • Makes minor repairs to Cathodic Protection (CP) systems and issues orders for major repairs.
  • Investigates reports of observed corrosion, damage or problems in the field, determines the extent of corrosion and recommends appropriate corrective measures.
  • Prepare and track work for mobile, service and other required leak surveys.
  • Coordinates with other departments to clear gas rights-of-way.
  • Manage Frost Survey model and coordinate Frost Survey activities.
  • Analyze and audit results of leak survey contractor inspections.
  • Works with other department personnel to determine appropriate action to correct abnormal operating conditions.
  • Trained and qualified in both corrosion control and leak survey.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations of corrosion control and leak survey activities.
  • Trains employees and contractors on cathodic protection and leak survey as well as required Operator Qualifications.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert in software programs Cathodic Protection Data Manager (CPDM) and Leak Survey Manager (LSM).
  • Serves as the corrosion and leak survey subject matter expert to internal and external organizations.
  • Innovate and deliver solutions to cathodic protection, leak survey and work management processes.
  • Perform as a first responder to odors when required; including indoor/outdoor investigations.
  • Maintain and become qualified to use the various leak survey and corrosion control instruments/equipment.
  • Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms and outdoor work in all types of weather or other energy delivery emergencies.
