About The Position

This INTERNAL recruitment is open to current, permanent WA State Department of Corrections (DOC) employees only. Our agency is looking to INTERNALLY fill a full-time, non-permanent Corrections Specialist 4 (CS4) - CRU Specialist position within the Community Corrections Division (CCD). This position works for the Community Response Unit (CRU) located at 1016 South 28th Street, Tacoma, WA 98409. This non-permanent appointment will be assigned to the FBI Task Force and part-time with the Mason and Kitsap County Sheriff Offices and is expected to last about six months. This position works as a Southwest Region Community Response Unit (CRU) Specialist assigned to the FBI South Sound Gang Task Force working under Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in an official law enforcement capacity and in cooperation with the Mason and Kitsap County Sheriff offices. The primary duties of this CS4 position includes conducting complex criminal investigations, apprehending wanted fugitives with WADOC, state/local, or federal arrest warrants. This position requires working long hours outside of a DOC office with multiple law enforcement agencies within high risk, stressful, and harsh environments. Shift hours: Monday-Friday, 0800-1630. Requirements

• Three years of experience as a Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2), CCO3, and/or Community Corrections Supervisor (CCS).
• Must possess and maintain an unrestricted vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Washington.
• Must have the legal, constitutional right to carry a department-issued firearm.
• Must have successfully passed a department psychological assessment.
• Must have successfully graduated the Community Correction Officer Academy (CCOA).
• Must have successfully graduated/completed the Community Corrections Firearms Academy and are currently armed.
• Be free from the use of narcotics or controlled substances (marijuana is a controlled substance).
• Be willing to travel on short notice in support of the CRU mission.
• Work in all weather conditions.
• Be fingerprinted and successfully pass a thorough background investigation performed by the assigned partnering federal agency/task force.
• Successfully complete a basic law enforcement academy or equivalent law enforcement training within 12 months from the date of hire, which may include completion of a physical fitness test prior to entry.
• Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check.
• Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
• Become familiar and comply with all department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements, as applicable.
• The successful candidate must be willing and able to: Work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts and be on call 24 hours a day.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or University whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
• Experience working with a local police agency and assisting them with their agency needs. This includes working patrol operations, special events, arrest/search operations, etc.
• Instructor in any Use of Force discipline (Firearms, Taser, Control Impedance, and Tactics/Defensive Tactics).

Responsibilities

• Act as a criminal investigator responsible for performing a variety of investigative duties.
• Conduct complex criminal investigations and apprehend high profile, violent wanted fugitives and individuals supervised under the jurisdictions of DOC.
• Participate as a member of a joint task force which is composed of federal, state, and local law enforcement personnel.
• Locate, research, investigate, author search warrants, and execute search warrants and seizures.
• Work with prosecuting attorneys at the state and federal level.
• Use of de-escalation techniques and the ability to communicate with offenders and fugitives in a positive and respectful manner.
• Provide Field Offices, Reentry Centers, and Prisons with investigational services and tactical assistance in fugitive apprehension and complex criminal investigations.
• Assist CCOs, Correctional Specialists, Reentry personnel, and Prison staff with investigations.
• Exercise sound judgement aligned with DOC policies in decisions concerning arrests, use of force, police tactics, and fugitive and criminal investigations.
• Maintain good standing with federal, state, county, and local task force.
• Assist DOC in developing, implementing, and educating staff in Arrest Planning and Implementation; Use of Force; Arrest techniques; collection and processing of evidence; most current court cases; and laws.
• Other duties as assigned.
