About The Position

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to take on the dynamic role of a Corrections Specialist 3 - Substance Use Disorder Professional and Continuity of Care Lead within the Health Services Division. This position is located at the Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC) just northeast of the Seattle area in Washington. Reporting directly to the SARU Gradual Reentry (GRE) Supervisor, this position provides a lead role in the development, implementation, and provision of services that impact participation in the Graduated Reentry Program. This position provides oversight to statewide clinicians providing assessments and other services to individuals identified by the SARU clinical team. The position supports the Department’s mission to improve public safety by enhancing successful reentry via providing leadership for optimum delivery of substance abuse services.

Requirements

  • Must hold and maintain State Certification as a Substance Use Disorder Professional or Trainee.
  • Experience and understanding of evidence-based treatment delivery practices.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team while exercising good judgement and promoting positive working relationships with incarcerated individuals, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Must be able to work in spaces, climb stairs, walk long distances, and frequently lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Under rare circumstances this position may be required to lift or carry up to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds.
  • Candidates who are offered a job with the Department of Corrections must possess work authorization that does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.

  • Associate's degree with a Social Service or Criminal Justice focus from an accredited college whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or a foreign equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and provides oversight to Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC), Cedar Creek Corrections Center (CCCC), Stafford Creek Corrections Center (SCCC) and aids statewide Substance Use Disorder Professionals and trainees (SUDP/SUDPT) conducting GRE substance use disorder assessments, treatment services and continuity of care appointments.
  • Ensures assessments and other addiction treatment components are delivered in accordance with WAC 246-341.
  • Conducts weekly program consultation.
  • Applies assurance oversight measures to the clinical work of SUDP/Ts.
  • Assists other SARU clinical programs in various facilities.
  • Provides staff education regarding policies and procedures for clinical programs and in accordance with applicable RCWs and WACs.
  • Participates in employment decisions, evaluation, training, and supervision plans.
  • Provides Eastern Washington lead clinical oversight ensuring assessments and other services are delivered in accordance with measurable performance standards.
  • Provides oversight to ensure continuity of care appointments in the community are available across the state and documents gaps in the service system.
  • Provides guidance to statewide SARU and contract Substance Use Disorder (SUD) staff regarding policy and statutory requirements ensuring services are delivered accordingly.
  • Follows the Department’s Substance Abuse Program within guidelines and policy ensuring operations according to contract specifications.
  • Reviews files to ensure adherence to service delivery and clinical record keeping within established quality assurance standards.
  • Reviews clinical records per standards determined by the SARU Clinical Supervisor and memorialized in expectations.
  • Ensures clinical protocols for GRE services are delivered within established guidelines and protocols.
  • Responsible for data collection and reporting.
  • Responsive to the Incarcerated Individuals (I/I) Resolutions Program and complaints related to the substance abuse program and staff.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of professional staff delivering services in DOC facilities.
  • Facilitates and/or attends daily, weekly, or monthly facility management meetings.
  • Participates in and provides training and education to clinical staff.
  • Remains current in the knowledge of effective treatment methods.
  • Ensures the effective use of all statewide program resources.
  • Ensures there is assigned program space and it is maintained in a presentable manner.
  • Oversees the collection of program data and ensures accurate reporting.
  • Demonstrates respect for supervisors, subordinates, WA DOC personnel and I/Is.
  • Complies with all WA DOC rules, regulations, procedures, and policies as applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.
