About The Position

Corrections Officers support the public safety mission by ensuring the safety and security of the public, staff, and inmates. They provide effective and safe custody and control while maintaining compliance with policies and procedures, using evidence-based practices, effective communication, and role modeling as part of collaborative, multidisciplinary teams addressing inmate needs. Officers secure adult inmates at the institution and during transport, supervise inmates’ daily activities, and observe and record their behavior and movement to ensure safe and secure confinement.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures and prepare workplace reports and documentation.
Ability to lawfully possess a firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Ability to successfully complete pre-employment medical screening, background check, and drug testing, including screening for marijuana use.

Nice To Haves

Stable employment history.
Military or related criminal justice experience.
Applicants at least 21 years old are preferred; a waiver may be provided by the Unit Head for applicants ages 18–20.
Bilingual and multilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.
