About The Position

The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking individuals to serve as Corrections Officers. These are entry-level positions where employees oversee and participate in the custody, security, and treatment of prisoners in correctional facilities. The department is a Gold Level Veteran Friendly Employer and encourages military veterans to apply. Upon hire, employees must successfully complete an 8-week DOC Officer Recruit Training program followed by two months of on-the-job training. Successful completion of initial training, annual training, and continuing certification are required to remain employed. These positions are test-designated and subject to drug and alcohol testing. Applicants must be at least eighteen years of age, pass a post-job-offer medical exam, drug screen, and physical fitness test.

Requirements

  • Completion of 15 semester (23 term) college credits in any field.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at time of employment.
  • Must pass a post-job-offer medical exam, drug screen, and physical fitness test.
  • Must finish an approved eight week corrections officer training program, followed by eight weeks of on the job training.
  • Official college transcript required.
  • DD-214-Member 4 Copy (active duty), NGB-22-Individual Copy 2 (National Guard), and/or discharge certificate (all other military reserve duty) for each tour of service must be scanned and attached.
  • Verification from the military branch where you are currently serving must be scanned and attached.
