About The Position

The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking individuals to serve as Corrections Officers. These are entry-level positions where employees oversee and participate in the custody, security, and treatment of prisoners in correctional facilities. The department is a Gold Level Veteran Friendly Employer and encourages military veterans to apply. Upon hire, employees must successfully complete an 8-week DOC Officer Recruit Training program followed by two months of on-the-job training. Successful completion of initial training, annual training, and continuing certification are required to remain employed. These positions are test-designated and subject to drug and alcohol testing. Applicants must be at least eighteen years of age, pass a post-job-offer medical exam, drug screen, and physical fitness test.

Requirements

Completion of 15 semester (23 term) college credits in any field.
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at time of employment.
Must pass a post-job-offer medical exam, drug screen, and physical fitness test.
Must finish an approved eight week corrections officer training program, followed by eight weeks of on the job training.
Official college transcript required.
DD-214-Member 4 Copy (active duty), NGB-22-Individual Copy 2 (National Guard), and/or discharge certificate (all other military reserve duty) for each tour of service must be scanned and attached.
Verification from the military branch where you are currently serving must be scanned and attached.
