About The Position

Performs routine work carrying out the intake and assessment procedures for clients brought to the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center (JIAC) within the Department of Corrections (DOC) and monitors clients while in the facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent
  • Two (2) years of college coursework in human services or other related field, or two (2) years’ experience working with youth and families.
  • Transcript verifying education credits is required.
  • Professional references are required to verify the related work experience.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.
  • Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screens.
  • Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356(d), (1-5).

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience working with youth and families.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews clients utilizing motivational interviewing skills.
  • Completes intake portion of database when law enforcement presents clients for assessment; completes fingerprinting, mug shots, and as necessary, DNA.
  • Enters accurate demographic information into the database.
  • Creates and/or modifies records in database, demonstrates high quality writing and proofreading skills; ensures timely completion of records, and accurately files records.
  • Provides short-term crisis counseling to families to ensure the safe release of clients.
  • Conducts family conferences to affect a safe and positive release with referrals to address issues identified during the assessment interview.
  • Provides inter-agency collaboration by sending required information to the District Attorney and social agencies; sets bonds and court dates, pulls ad hoc information requests for agencies, creates/distributes daily reports.
  • Relieves the shift supervisor of routine tasks and reporting of shift activity, when needed.
  • Assists in the training of team members and serves as a resource person for law enforcement to answer questions about JIAC processes.
