About The Position

As a Corrections Officer 3 with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you take on an important leadership role that shapes daily operations at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Chester. This position gives you the chance to guide staff, coordinate movement and activities, and support a well-run correctional environment. The role helps maintain proper inmate movement, monitoring, and compliance with institutional procedures.

Requirements

  • One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Four years of experience in corrections security work in a Pennsylvania state or county corrections facility.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Persons seeking employment under the 'Four years of experience in corrections security work' option will be required to successfully complete, or have completed, a training program conducted by the Department of Corrections.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and evaluate correctional officers and ensure duties follow policies and regulations
  • Oversee schedules, inmate movement, and key activities throughout the institution
  • Monitor living areas, address concerns, and observe inmate behavior
  • Ensure proper processing and supervision for transports, visitors, and incoming materials
  • Investigate staff violations and recommend appropriate disciplinary actions
  • Review reports, maintain documentation, and participate in meetings and fact-finding sessions
