About The Position

This position contributes to the public safety mission by managing the daily activities of Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers, and Inmates in an institutional setting. The role involves supervising and monitoring staff on the assigned shift to ensure a safe, secure, and productive environment. The Corrections Lieutenant will lead and counsel staff, may coordinate work schedules and assign duty rosters for the assigned shift, and contributes to the administration of the performance management system for staff. This role also involves conducting ongoing inspections to maintain the security, sanitation, and good order of the institution, and interacting with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certification.
  • Considerable experience in corrections or law enforcement.
  • Experience supervising corrections staff.
  • Working experience planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work to include timekeeping and duty roster management.
  • Experience in reviewing and evaluating records and reports and applying post orders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures governing security and/or administration.
  • Ability to receive, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
  • Working knowledge in the use of firearms, radio equipment, physical control devices, electric and electronic controls.

Nice To Haves

  • LEAD Graduate or equivalent applicable experience and/or training.
  • Working experience with evidence-based practices.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs to include Outlook.
