About The Position

The Office of Juvenile Justice is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and mission-driven Corrections Lieutenant Colonel to lead Operations at a secure-care facility for adjudicated youth. This is a high-impact leadership role for a professional who thrives in complex environments, communicates with authority, and is committed to maintaining safety, structure, and operational excellence. As the senior Operations leader, you will oversee security staffing, shift management, post orders, and daily campus readiness. You’ll supervise Operations Shift Supervisors, ensure compliance with agency policies, conduct facility inspections, and coordinate emergency response efforts. You’ll also collaborate with treatment, education, and medical teams to support safety-related functions across the campus, while maintaining high standards through Performance-based Standards (PbS) compliance and staff development. Requirements

  • Four years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following: 1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR 2. One year of experience in any field; OR 3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
  • One year of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Captain in State service.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possession of a current driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Leads all facility operations — Oversees security staffing, shift coverage, post orders, and daily operational readiness across the campus.
  • Supervises and develops staff — Directs Operations Shift Supervisors, approves schedules and leave, conducts evaluations, and mentors new personnel.
  • Ensures policy compliance — Reviews reports and logbooks, enforces agency and facility procedures, and ensures unscheduled searches and safety checks occur.
  • Conducts inspections & safety oversight — Performs daily facility inspections, monitors sanitation and maintenance, and ensures security systems and equipment are fully operational.
  • Coordinates emergency response — Serves as Response Team Leader, monitors incidents, and executes emergency procedures as required.
  • Maintains PbS and administrative standards — Ensures Performance-based Standards updates, training, and documentation are accurate and submitted on time.
  • Acts as senior leadership — Serves as Chief Administrative Officer in the absence of the Director, Deputy Director, or Assistant Director.
