About The Position

The Department of Corrections (IDOC) is seeking a Corrections Industry Supervisor to act as a working supervisor and instructor for individuals in custody within the Garment Shop. This role involves teaching the proper use of tools, equipment, and materials, inspecting finished products for quality assurance, coordinating order production, and monitoring inmate payroll. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and capable of multitasking.

Requirements

  • Requires thorough knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years high school or completion of an approved training course.
  • Requires two (2) years supervisory experience in the garment industry.
  • Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
  • Requires the physical ability to perform assigned duties.
  • Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in the garment manufacturing industry.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in organizational logistics.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with purchase contracts and/or service level agreements with vendors.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in inventory management.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in supervising production.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Instructs individuals in custody in the proper use of tools, equipment and materials utilized in the Garment Shop.
  • Inspects and reviews all finished products for quality assurance before storing and shipping.
  • Coordinates the production of all orders.
  • Monitors and checks individual in custody payroll.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
