About The Position

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) is seeking a motivated candidate to serve as the Corrections Identification Supervisor located in Cook County. The ideal candidate for this role will possess previous experience with the methods and techniques in fingerprint classification and identifications, possess experience with developing, printing, and enlargement of photographs, and possess experience in maintaining and operating a photographic dark room. In this position, the incumbent will direct and coordinate the operation of a photographic and fingerprint identification program, direct the fingerprinting and genetic index marking of youth, photograph and fingerprint all new employees, and serve as a working supervisor. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years high school.
  • Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six months of employment.
  • Requires completion of an approved training program in the taking and classification of fingerprints.
  • Requires three years' experience in fingerprint identification work involving classifying, searching, filing, and making identification of fingerprints.
  • Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • All candidates must be over the age of 21.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Requires ability to utilize the English language in the performance of all duties.

  • Prefers thorough knowledge of institutional rules, regulations and requirements for the control of residents or wards.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of methods and techniques in fingerprint classification and identification work and of single fingerprint system of filing fingerprints.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of developing, printing and enlargement of photographs and maintenance and operation of a photographic dark room.
  • Prefers ability to instruct, train, and supervise others in fingerprint classification identification procedures.
  • Prefers ability to prepare reports of unusual happenings, accidents or violations of rules by employees, residents or wards and operational reports.
  • Prefers ability to enforce disciplinary, safety, security and custodial measures for resident or ward control.
  • Prefers ability to think clearly and exercise forceful initiative in emergency situations.
  • Prefers ability to detect minute differences in fingerprint records.

Responsibilities

  • Under general direction of the Statewide Intake Administrator, plans, directs and coordinates the operation of a photographic and fingerprint identification program at IYC Chicago.
  • Directs the fingerprinting and genetic index marking of youth.
  • Monitors all photographic work.
  • Photographs and fingerprints all new employees and maintains files.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Escorts youth to and from various work assignments.
  • Confers with Bureau of Identification, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and other government agencies.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
