About The Position

This recruitment will be used to fill various types of positions as positions become available. Types of jobs may include regular full time or part time positions, on-call positions (up to 20 hours per week) or temporary positions (up to 40 hours a week for up to 6 months). Our facilities collectively house almost 800 adults and nearly 30 juveniles. Over 36,000 adults and over 2,000 juveniles are cared for each year. As a Community Health Nurse (CHN) you will provide professional and compassionate healthcare services to detained individuals starting at intake with triage, care planning and management of their care while in custody, until they are released to the community or transferred to another facility. Corrections Health personnel provide comprehensive assessments and treatment that reflects the standard of care in the community. Our medical team partners with the Multnomah County Sheriff Deputies to prioritize safety and care for our staff and detainees. As a community health nurse in Corrections Health, you will help serve in our three Correctional Health facilities: The Multnomah County Detention Center (downtown), Inverness Jail (near PDX airport), and The Juvenile Detention Center (NE Portland).

Requirements

  • Possession of an appropriate and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
  • A Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program
  • BLS/CPR certification required
  • Must be able to pass a Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Background Check
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary setting fostering a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment
  • Experience providing services to diverse and vulnerable communities
  • Multnomah County COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement: To protect the health of the community and employees, Multnomah County requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved medical or religious exemption as a qualification of employment. The rule applies to all employees, as allowable by law. Candidates who receive an offer of County employment must provide proof of vaccination upon hire or submit an exception request prior to their start date.

Benefits

  • Hourly differentials for working swing ($3/hr), graveyard ($6/hr), weekends ($3.50/hr) shifts.
  • The first 4 hours of the mandated shift will be paid at an overtime rate (1.5x), and the remaining hours of the mandated shift will be paid at a double-time rate (2.0x).
  • If you are scheduled to work the following day after a mandated shift, then that schedule shift will be paid at an overtime rate (1.5x).
