About The Position

The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a motivated and skilled candidate to serve as the Corrections Food Service Supervisor. The ideal candidate for this position will possess previous food service experience, have supervisory skills, and will be comfortable leading by example while providing instruction to the youth in our care. The incumbent in this position will be comfortable following a master menu and making independent decisions regarding food quality, supply needs, portion control, and many other aspects within the dietary unit.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
  • Requires three years of Institution food preparation experience such as could be gained as a Corrections Food Service Supervisor I or II, or supervisory experience in a large-scale food service operation.
  • Requires possession of a current Food Service Sanitation Certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health or requires possession of a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification from a program accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Conference for Food Protection (CFPJ).
  • Requires the ability to pass an Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC)/Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) background check.
  • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen.
  • Requires completion of an orientation-training course within six (6) months of employment.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.

  • Prefers ability to interpret the provisions of the Illinois Food Service Sanitation rules and regulations.
  • Prefers ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and offenders or juveniles.
  • Prefers ability to instruct and supervise subordinates and offenders or juveniles working in all important food service functions.
  • Prefers ability to keep food service records, conduct inventories, prepare reports and requisition food and other supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a working supervisor.
  • Provides input into food production by directing and initiating maintenance of proper health, sanitation and safety standards in preparing, serving and storing foods.
  • Plans, schedules and publishes menus for general and therapeutic diets.
  • Directs and monitors staff in training youth in food preparation.
  • Serves as Food Services Program Manager in his/her absence.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
