About The Position
The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated person with the required experience to work as Corrections Food Service Instructor. This position functions as lead worker by assigning, participating in, and reviewing routine and specialized tasks performed by inmates in food preparation, production, service, and baking. Requirements
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Teach inmates how to prepare and serve meals according to established recipes, procedures, and in a timely manner
- Plan assignments, evaluate inmate performance, and maintain accurate records
- Inspect food service areas, equipment, and food to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards
- Review census and menu data to adjust recipes accordingly and reduce food waste
- Request, receive, and store food and supplies, following first-in, first out procedures
