About The Position

Employee will provide technical paraprofessional assistance to professional Parole/Probation Officers. This position will be located at Pontiac Probation North Office Building 1200 N. Telegraph Rd. Building 26 East Pontiac, MI 48341. MDOC is proud to employ nearly 1,500 veterans and actively serving military members across the department. Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) with at least 15 semester (23 term) credits in one or a combination of the following areas: criminal justice, correctional administration, criminology, social work, sociology, educational psychology, psychology, family relations, theology, or counseling and guidance.
  • No specific type or amount of experience is required for Corrections Field Service Assistant 9.
  • One year of experience as a Corrections Field Service Assistant for Corrections Field Service Assistant E10.
  • Thorough knowledge of the department's policies and procedures and organization structure.
  • Knowledge of laws, parole violation due process and confidentiality or records.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of human behavior.
  • Knowledge of informational and fact finding techniques.
  • Knowledge of parole and probation laws pertaining to adult offenders and related departmental policies.
  • Knowledge of probationer/parolee behaviors and problems.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical paraprofessional assistance to professional Parole/Probation Officers.
  • Conduct interviews, obtain information, make observations, and draw reasonable conclusions.
  • Read and apply program policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain case records, compile information for reports and conduct correspondence.
  • Obtain the cooperation of probationers/parolees, family members, employers, and private and public agencies.
  • Operate a motor vehicle.
  • Maintain favorable public relations.
  • Explain instructions and guidelines to others effectively.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
