About The Position

As a Corrections Facility Maintenance Manager 1 with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset, you take on an important leadership role. This position allows you to coordinate maintenance activities that support safety, structure, and daily operations. Your efforts help ensure that repairs, construction, and upkeep are completed efficiently. Step into a position where your work helps the entire facility succeed! This position oversees maintenance operations by directing staff, coordinating projects, and ensuring safe and efficient facility upkeep. The role supports management, supervises work activities, and ensures adherence to standards and procedures.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience as a Building Maintenance Foreman, Utility Plant Supervisor, or Corrections Tradesman Instructor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) with a specialty in one of the trades of Carpentry, Electrical, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Sheet Metal, Machinist, Welding, Painting, Automotive, Electronics, or Masonry; or Six years of experience in the construction, maintenance or repair of buildings; or the operation, maintenance and repair of utility services equipment, including two years in a managerial or supervisory capacity; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, assign, direct, and coordinate maintenance activities based on facility needs and priorities
  • Supervise maintenance and trades staff, provide training, and conduct performance oversight
  • Review blueprints, prepare sketches, and guide maintenance, construction, and repair projects
  • Prepare and submit an annual department budget, control overtime, and review requisitions for tools, supplies, and equipment
  • Inspect work areas, enforce safety standards, and document and address any deficiencies
  • Search work areas for contraband, maintain tool control, and respond to emergencies as needed
