About The Position

The Corrections Counselor 2 position with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Greene offers an opportunity to support individuals who are working to improve their lives. This role allows you to help inmates develop skills, address challenges, and prepare for a successful return to the community. You will make a positive impact every day by guiding others through meaningful change. This position provides counseling, casework, and support to inmates who are adjusting to the correctional environment and preparing for community re-entry.

Requirements

• Successful completion of the Corrections Counselor 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) training program
• One year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility, and a bachelor’s degree including 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field
• An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of professional counseling or casework experience in a correctional facility and 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field
• Obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this job
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA
• Meet the PA residency requirement
• Be able to perform essential job functions
• Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements

Responsibilities

• Interview inmates, offer guidance on adjustment, support conflict resolution, and provide referrals for social, educational, and vocational growth
• Develop and maintain records, communicate with families and agencies, and coordinate information for case planning and reintegration
• Analyze tests, compile histories, and document evaluations to determine programming, risk levels, and treatment needs
• Work with multidisciplinary staff to align programming, counseling, activities, and expectations that support behavioral change
• Assist with re-entry planning, secure identification documents, and prepare reports and recommendations for parole review

Benefits

• Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $64,574.00 (before taxes).
