About The Position

Performs administrative and professional work managing, coordinating, and supervising a correctional program or program component of the Department of Corrections.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in a corrections or human services field, including supervisory experience.
  • Professional references are required to verify the related work experience.
  • Up to two years of experience may be substituted with education that provides applicable knowledge and skills.
  • Transcript verifying education credits is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid US driver’s license without restrictions.
  • Current proof of automobile insurance.
  • Personal passenger vehicle for use when county vehicle is not available (employee reimbursement is provided by County).
  • Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screen for alcohol and drugs.
  • Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356(d), (1-5).

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for the successful operation of a corrections program or program component.
  • Plan, schedule, deliver, document, and evaluate service delivery in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Assist in developing, writing, editing, implementing, and evaluating policies, procedures and standards to make continuous improvements in service quality.
  • Coordinate intakes and releases as needed.
  • Provide department trainings; strive to develop best practices.
  • Ensure that staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance, policies, and procedures specific to their jobs.
  • Serve on the supervisory team and may be required to provide managerial presence on any shift, any day of the week.
  • Ensure the quality hiring of staff and their adequate training to meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Make recommendations as to the hiring, promotion, or any other staffing changes as needed.
  • Supervise employees, document services, and ensure services meet regulatory and/or procedural standards.
  • Coordinate actions with other department units and provide staff and/or resident instruction/training.
  • Schedule and evaluate staff performance, manage and prepare timecards, and approve requests for sick and vacation leave.
  • Mentor, coach, and discipline direct reports as needed.
  • Review written and verbal reports daily concerning procedural problems, behavior of clients, safety, and security issues, and make appropriate decisions in accordance with policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Review and edit critical work products; perform quality assurance audits.
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisors and direct reports to facilitate informed decisions.
  • Coordinate services and activities with other department units to ensure necessary interface to achieve results.
  • Maintain communication availability for crisis management contacts.
  • Manage unit expenses within allotted resources, approve purchases, maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, and refill on schedule to avoid lapses.
  • Work shifts outside normal business hours as needed.
