About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Compliance Training Specialist to coordinate and support training and compliance functions at Johnston Correctional Institution. Johnston Correctional Institution in Smithfield, NC, which houses approximately 668 minimum custody male offenders, and this position is critical in ensuring all staff training requirements, certifications, and compliance standards are met in accordance with NCDAC policies, state regulations, and applicable federal guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in a criminal justice or training-related field; or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as a Correctional Officer I; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the planning, delivery, implementation and cooperation for all training activities assigned to Johnston Correctional Institution.
  • Reviews all request for training and applications for educational assistance submitted by the employees within the facility to ensure appropriateness of the requested training and the compliance with established policy and procedure for requesting training.
  • Reviews, schedules, coordinates and conducts mandatory annual in-service training which is required for all employees certified by the N.C. Criminal Justice education and training standards commission.
  • Reviews, schedules, coordinates and conducts the New Hire Orientation for all newly assigned employees within the first 30 days of their employment.
  • Reviews, schedules, coordinates and assists in preparation of review of review sessions for applicants for promotional exams.
  • Responsible for developing lessons plans and training proposals for the delivery of non-calendared training for employees.
  • Reviews, schedules, and coordinates participation in divisional training sessions as advertised in the training calendar.
