Colorado Correctional Industries (CCi) is a cash funded, self-supporting division of the Colorado Department of Corrections. This position ensures the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates. This position prepares inmates for community re-entry by promoting the Colorado Department of Corrections Mission, Vision and Values while adhering to a high level of integrity and commitment. The position trains and guides staff and inmates in the proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment and chemicals; enforces security procedures by conducting searches; monitors workplace environment and offender behavior, paying close attention to changes, inappropriate activity or potential problems; initiates verbal reprimands when warranted and, if necessary, physically controls inmates with the proper application of restraints or "use of force" techniques; monitors, supervises and escorts inmates according to facility policy and limits offender access to restricted areas; position performs offender counts and transportation; responds to emergency situations such as fights, fires and escapes according to agency policy and writes and submits required reporting. Through conscientious observation, clear communications and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations, facility Implementation Adjustments and the Code of Penal Discipline, position promotes a safe and secure environment. The position ensures offender workers are trained in work area and ensures timely completion of tasks. Ensures offender evaluations are completed, tracks and calculates offender hours and pay, creates schedule and assigns tasks and resolves informal grievances according to agency policy; reduces offender idleness and creates real life work opportunities to prepare inmates for community re-entry. Position holds inmates accountable for attendance and utilizes PCDCIS Chronological Entry to report/track both positive and negative behavior. This position ensures the safe, secure, efficient, compliant and cost effective execution of assigned tasks and projects by performing "hands on" instructional work alongside staff and offender crew. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Trains and supervises inmates across various CCi cost centers in profitable work ventures, including light construction, warehouse management, shipping and receiving orders, and the delivery and set up of CI products; Maintains optimum customer relations through written, electronic and phone contact, delivers customer service training, and proactively develops leads for new customers; Ensures operational flexibility by providing sector and statewide logistics support, working in multiple locations under varying schedules, and performing overtime duties; Operates State Fleet and CDOC vehicle in strict compliance with federal, state and restriction guidelines; Implements facility policy and procedures to ensure safety and security through tool, materials and supply control; Responsible for offender movement and accountability; Manages the program operating budget to ensure adequate supplies, equipment and material are available throughout the fiscal year; Maintains program equipment and material inventories; recommends Capital equipment purchases; Provides supervision, training, scheduling and evaluations for offender workers; Records attendance and provides information to formulate payroll; Develops and maintains database of offender training records to ensure that offenders are properly trained for the emergency to which they are responding; Ensures the safety and security of the public, facility staff and offenders by evaluating work conditions; instructing staff and offenders in proper safety methods; Provides custody, surveillance, supervisory, transport, shakedown and count duties; ensures proper key, tool, equipment and chemical control; ensures compliance of all policy/procedural guidelines; enforces safety/security procedures by conducting inspections, work site searches and monitoring the work environment.
