About The Position

The Montana Department of Corrections (DOC) is creating a safer Montana through Accountability, Rehabilitation and Empowerment. As a Correctional Sergeant at the Flathead Valley Re‑Entry Center, you will play a vital part in maintaining the safety, security, and integrity of a facility dedicated to helping individuals successfully return to the community. In this role, you will oversee daily security operations, guide and support security staff, and ensure the facility functions smoothly and responsibly. The Sergeant is entrusted with protecting the public, upholding secure practices, and supporting treatment and rehabilitation efforts for the offender population. This position blends hands‑on security work with key administrative responsibilities—offering both challenge and purpose every single day. Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • Successful completion of Corrections & Detention Officer Basic Training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy within the first year of employment
  • Two years security-related experience
  • One year of supervisory experience
  • Must pass a background and fingerprint check
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Successful completion of on-the-job training is required
  • Be a citizen of the United States of America
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be fingerprinted for a criminal history search
  • Not been convicted of a crime for which could have led to being imprisoned in a federal or state penitentiary
  • Be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background screen
  • Possess or be eligible for a valid Montana driver’s license
  • Successful applicants will be subject to: Criminal history check, Child/patient/offender abuse registries, Reference checks

  • POST Basic Certification after attending training at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy and successfully completing one year of employment with the Department of Corrections
