About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager and/or Correctional Lieutenant III at a multi-custody male correctional facility, the primary duties of the Correctional Sergeant III includes, but is not limited to, the following: 1. Providing first-line supervision to Correctional Officer III’s in a close-custody institution with restrictive and controlled housing. 2. Assigning lower level custody staff to post(s). 3. Overseeing officer activities and performance, and ensuring that custody, security, and welfare of offenders is maintained. 4. Arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures, and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy. 5. Performing other duties as needed.

Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND three years of experience as a Correctional Officer, OR two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
